Gravure LB still shows up on MapQuest for engraving in Quebec City. Call the number and you'll get a disconnect tone — the listing outlived the shop. It's a small, specific version of a bigger problem: Things Engraved closed all 73 of its Canadian mall stores in January 2020, and searches for "engraving quebec city" still turn up ghosts.
So what do you do instead? That depends on one question: are you engraving something you already own, or buying a finished engraved gift?
The short answer.
Things Engraved closed every Canadian store in January 2020 and now sells online only. In Quebec City today, industrial laser shops and gravure studios will engrave an item you bring in. If you want a finished engraved steel tumbler or bottle, order direct from a maker — we engrave to order in our Calgary workshop and ship to Quebec City in 1–3 business days, engraving included.
Your four options in Quebec City, compared
| Option | Best for | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| Industrial laser shops | Stainless steel plates, lamacoids, signage cutting | Built for industrial/commercial jobs, not personal gifts |
| Gravure (engraving) studios | Trophies, plaques, jewelry, items you already own | You supply the item; priced per job, not a gift shelf |
| Online gift resellers | Browsing many categories in one place | They resell catalogue goods; the engraving is often the only custom part |
| Order direct from a maker | Finished engraved steel tumblers, bottles, and mugs, shipped to your door | Not same-day: made to order, ships in 1–3 days |
If you're engraving something you already own
Quebec City has real shops built for exactly this, mostly running industrial equipment rather than a mall counter. Graphie specializes in laser engraving on stainless steel and lamacoids — built for signage and industrial marking, but they'll take a one-off job. Plastica runs laser cutting and gravure services out of the city. Groupe Hyperforme offers engraving and laser cutting as part of a broader fabrication shop. None of them are set up like the old Things Engraved counter — walk in with a trophy or a ring and expect a quote based on the material, not a price list on the wall.
Call ahead with the material. A laser calibrated for a lamacoid plate isn't set up the same way for a stainless tumbler or a gold ring, and a shop quoting your item sight-unseen is guessing.
If you're buying an engraved gift
This is the hole the mall stores left. Things Engraved sold the item and the engraving together — pick a flask, add a name, walk out with a gift. The industrial laser shops that rank in its place weren't built for that; they're set up for commercial signage and one-off jobs on items people already have, not a shelf of gifts ready to personalize.
We took the direct route instead. LAMOSE makes the tumblers and bottles ourselves and engraves every order in our Calgary workshop: the laser cuts through the powder coat into bare steel, so the name can't fade, peel, or wash off. Engraving is included, not an add-on. Your order is made when you place it and ships to Quebec City in 1–3 business days — no drive out to a fabrication shop, no disconnected number to call. 7,577 Etsy reviews sit at 4.9 stars.
Two places to start:
- Grouse 16 oz tumbler, $35. Double-wall 18/8 stainless steel, 6 hours hot, 12 hours cold, wide-mouth flip lid. The everyday cup people keep on their desk.
- Robson 21 oz bottle, $40. 12 hours hot, 24 hours cold, one-hand sport cap. Still cold on the walk down from the Plaines the whole afternoon.
See the Grouse — or add a name, a date, or coordinates to any piece and it ships engraved.
What about bulk orders in Quebec City?
Quebec City runs on institutions that hand out name-engraved steel more than you'd think — staff gifts for a Université Laval department, thank-yous for a construction or maintenance crew working the old town, season gifts for a microbrewery team, conference pieces for the tech and gaming studios based in the city. Same workshop, same laser. Every piece can carry a different name, and pricing is quoted per project. Tell us about your project and we'll reply within one business day.
Frequently asked questions
Is Things Engraved still open in Quebec City?
No. Things Engraved closed all 73 of its Canadian mall stores in January 2020, including in Quebec City. The brand still operates online, and old directory listings for local stores are still floating around.
Where can I get engraving done on an item I already own in Quebec City?
Graphie, Plastica, and Groupe Hyperforme all run laser engraving equipment in the city and take one-off jobs, though most are set up for industrial and signage work first, personal items second.
How much does custom engraving cost in Quebec City?
Bring-your-own-item shops price per job, by material and size — call with the item for a real number. On our side, engraving is included in the product price: a Grouse 16 oz tumbler is $35 engraved, a Robson 21 oz bottle is $40 engraved.
Can I order an engraved gift online in Canada?
Yes. We engrave names, dates, logos, and coordinates on steel tumblers, bottles, and mugs in our Calgary workshop and ship across Canada, Quebec City included, in 1–3 business days.
By Chen Deng, founder of LAMOSE. We started at a mall kiosk in Edmonton in 2017, the same kind of counter Things Engraved ran, and now engrave every order in our Calgary workshop.
