If you're engraving something you already own
Halifax has real service shops built for exactly this. London Rubber advertises engraving alongside its stamp work downtown. Twin Cities Engravers and Alexander Engraving both take carry-in jobs. Halifax Watch and Eurekatec run laser engraving and etching services, and Maritimes Arts & Crafts Studio does the same across the harbour in Dartmouth. There's an r/halifax thread asking exactly this question: where does anyone actually get something engraved anymore. If your item is a retirement plaque or a ring that needs a date inside the band, that's a counter job: someone looking at the actual object in front of them.
Call ahead with the material. A laser calibrated for a brass plaque isn't set up the same way for anodized aluminum or powder-coated steel, and a shop quoting your item sight-unseen is guessing.

This is the hole the mall stores left. Things Engraved sold the item and the engraving together — pick a flask, add a name, walk out with a gift.
