Walk West Edmonton Mall looking for the engraving counter and you won't find one. We checked all 529 listings in the mall's directory: no Things Engraved, no engraving kiosk. We know, because LAMOSE started as one of those kiosks at West Edmonton Mall in 2017. Here's where Edmonton gets things engraved now.

The short answer: Things Engraved closed all 73 of its Canadian stores in January 2020; the brand now sells online only. What happened to Things Engraved?

Things Engraved was the engraving counter of Canadian malls for decades: mugs, flasks, lockets, pet tags, all personalized while you shopped. In January 2020 the company closed all 73 stores across Canada, and no Edmonton location survived. Directory sites still carry listings for the closed stores, which is why the search results feel like a ghost town. The brand itself lives on online (thingsengraved.ca now forwards to thingsengraved.com, which still calls itself a "Personalization Gift Store Since 1982"), but the walk-in counter is gone.

We know that counter better than most. LAMOSE started as a kiosk at West Edmonton Mall, engraving names into steel while people shopped. The kiosk era ended for us too (our workshop is in Calgary now), but the question "where do I get this engraved?" never went away. What replaced the mall counter is specialists, and the specialist does your specific job better than a kiosk ever did. You just need to know which door to knock on.

Where to go in Edmonton, by what you need engraved

One honest note about that last row: we only engrave the steel we sell. If you need a ring engraved or a plaque for a retirement, the shops above are your answer. The price comes down to who is holding the laser. Awards and trophy shops usually quote per job: setup plus per-piece, and the price moves with quantity and artwork, so call with your file ready. Jewellers price engraving as an add-on to the piece. Our pricing is simpler because the engraving is not a separate service: a $40 tumbler with a name on it costs $40. The only universal advice is to get the quote before you fall in love with the idea.

Same-day engraving in Edmonton?

Rarely, and not from the shops you'd guess. We checked the Edmonton trophy shops' own websites and none of them promises same-day. Awards Unlimited says most awards and engraving "are ready in 5 business days, up to 10 in our busiest seasons." The one same-day line we found is from a jeweller: Ultra Jewellers at Londonderry Mall says "Simple designs might be done while you wait," with 3 to 7 business days for custom work. So if your deadline is this afternoon and the job is small text on jewellery, call Ultra first. We are not same-day either: orders ship in 1–3 business days after you approve the proof. If it's this week, you have options; if it's December, order in November.
