The short answer: Things Engraved closed all 73 of its Canadian stores in January 2020; the brand now sells online only. In Calgary today, you pick your engraver by the object: a jeweler for rings, an awards shop for plaques and trophies, a laser shop for industrial marking, and a maker like us for steel tumblers, bottles, and gifts.

What happened to Things Engraved?
Things Engraved was the engraving counter of Canadian malls for decades: mugs, flasks, lockets, pet tags, all personalized while you shopped. In January 2020 the company closed all 73 stores across Canada, including every Calgary location. The brand survives as an online store, but the walk-in counter is gone.
That left a real gap. "Get it engraved at the mall" stopped being an answer, and nothing replaced it one-for-one. What replaced it is specialists, which is better news than it sounds, because the specialist does your specific job better than a kiosk ever did. You just need to know which door to knock on.

One honest note about that last row: we only engrave what we make. If you need a ring engraved or a plaque for a retirement, the shops above are your answer, and they are good at it. If you want a name cut permanently into insulated steel, that is the lane we have spent nine years in.
What we do in our Calgary workshop
Laser engraving, not the scratch-plate kind. The laser cuts through the powder coat into bare stainless steel, so the mark cannot fade, peel, or wash off. A mall kiosk personalized what a supplier shipped in; we engrave what we build, which is why the engraving is included in the price instead of added at a counter.

It depends on who is holding the laser. Awards and trophy shops usually quote per job: setup plus per-piece, and the price moves with quantity and artwork, so call with your file ready. Jewelers price engraving as an add-on to the piece. Our pricing is simpler because the engraving is not a separate service: a $40 tumbler with a name on it costs $40. The only honest universal advice: get the quote before you fall in love with the idea.
Same-day engraving in Calgary?
Walk-in same-day service largely left town with the mall kiosks. Awards shops can sometimes turn a rush job; ask, and expect a rush fee. We are not same-day either, and we will not pretend otherwise: orders ship in 1–3 business days, engraved and checked.
