If you just searched for the Things Engraved counter at Market Mall, Chinook or Southcentre, it isn't there anymore. None of them are. Here's what happened, which mall engraving is left, and where Calgarians get engraving done now.
The short answer: Things Engraved closed all 73 Canadian stores in January 2020 and now sells online only. In Calgary, pick your engraver by the object: a jeweller for rings, an awards shop for trophies, a laser shop for industrial marking, and us for engraved steel tumblers and bottles. Engraving Reimagined still has a counter at Market Mall.

What happened to Things Engraved?
Things Engraved was the engraving counter of Canadian malls for decades: mugs, flasks, lockets and pet tags, all personalized while you shopped. In January 2020 the company closed all 73 stores across Canada, including every Calgary location. Its online store stayed open, and thingsengraved.ca now forwards to thingsengraved.com, which still sells in Canadian dollars.
That left a gap. "Get it engraved at the mall" stopped being an answer. What replaced it is specialists, and that's better news than it sounds. A specialist does your specific job better than a kiosk did. You just need to know which door to knock on.
Is there still engraving at Market Mall or Chinook?
Yes, at one mall. Engraving Reimagined is listed under Services in the CF Market Mall directory, and its own site says it has "a physical retail store in Market Mall" (3625 Shaganappi Trail NW). It's the closest thing Calgary has to the old counter.
The CF Chinook Centre directory lists no engraving store. If it's jewellery you want engraved, Pandora says "Engraving available in store" at its Market Mall, Chinook Centre, Southcentre and The Core locations. We couldn't read Southcentre's own directory, so call before you drive there for anything else.

One honest note about that last row: we only engrave the steel we sell. If you need a ring engraved or a plaque for a retirement, the shops above are your answer. If you want a name cut into an insulated tumbler, that's the work we've done for nine years.
What we do in our Calgary workshop
Laser engraving, not the scratch-plate kind. The laser cuts through the powder coat into bare stainless steel, so the mark can't fade, peel or wash off. Our steel bodies come from a specialist supplier overseas; the engraving, checking and shipping happen here. Engraving is included in the price instead of added at a counter.

Everything is made to order. You order online, we email a proof within 24 hours for any custom design, and it ships in 1 to 3 business days. Buying more lowers the price on its own: 2 pieces are 20% off and 10 or more are 45% off, so that $40 Peyto is $22 each for a team. Large custom-artwork runs take 5 to 10 business days. Each piece can carry a different name at no extra step.

What engraving costs in Calgary
The price comes down to who's holding the laser. Awards shops usually quote per job, and the price moves with quantity and artwork, so call with your file ready. Jewellers price engraving as an add-on to the piece. Our pricing is simpler because the engraving isn't a separate service: a $40 tumbler with a name on it costs $40. The one universal rule is to get the quote before you fall in love with the idea.
Same-day engraving in Calgary?
We couldn't find a Calgary shop that advertises same-day engraving on its own site. That service mostly left with the mall kiosks. The fastest published times we found were Solocraft, where "most small custom projects are completed within 1–2 days," and ShopTrophies, which offers rush engraving on request. We're not same-day either: orders ship in 1 to 3 business days, engraved and checked. If your deadline is tomorrow, call a local shop and ask. If it's next week, you have options.
