The gift lands in December. A client opens it between two calls, writes back a two-line thank-you, and by February it's in a drawer with three other companies' logos. Nobody planned for that outcome. The gift-box broker just sent five things instead of one, and five things read as filler, not as a decision someone made about them specifically.

The short answer.

A client-appreciation gift only works if it survives past the day it's opened. One well-made, personalized item — a name or a logo engraved into real steel — gets kept on a desk for years. A five-piece variety box from a gift-box broker gets sorted into a drawer within a week. Give one thing worth keeping.

Three ways to say thank you, compared

Option Best for The catch
Gift-box brokers (assorted snack/trinket boxes) A one-time impression, sent in volume, no personalization needed Nothing in the box is made for that client specifically — it reads as filler, not a decision
Bulk branded mugs (logo printed, ordered by the hundred) Trade-show handouts, low-stakes volume drops A stranger's logo on a mug isn't a gift to the person holding it — it's an ad they now own
One personalized piece from a maker Key accounts, referral sources, anyone you actually want remembered Not instant — made to order, ships in 1–3 days per person, 1–2 weeks for a full client list

Why the box loses

Every seller ranking for "client appreciation gift ideas" right now is a broker. They curate other people's products into a box, or they print a logo on a blank someone else made. None of them make the thing you're giving. That's not a knock on the idea of a gift box — it's the reason a gift box rarely gets kept. A client who receives five unrelated items understands, correctly, that the box was assembled for a mailing list, not for them.

One engraved tumbler with their name on it is a different signal entirely. It says someone chose this, sized it, and had it made for them, not for the list. That's the whole difference between a gift that gets used every morning and one that gets donated at the next office cleanout.

What we'd actually send

We engrave every order in our Calgary workshop — nothing is outsourced, nothing is a stock blank with a sticker on it. Three that work well as client gifts:

  • Grouse 16 oz ($35). Wide-mouth tumbler, 18/8 stainless steel, 6 hours hot / 12 hours cold. The easy default for a full client list.
  • Robson 21 oz ($40). Narrow-mouth bottle, 18/8 stainless steel, 12 hours hot / 24 hours cold. Reads as a step up for a smaller list of top accounts.
  • Emerald 16 oz ($40). 316 medical-grade stainless steel, tapered grip, 6 hours hot / 24 hours cold. The one we'd send to a client we're trying to keep for another ten years.

Every one of them ships with the client's name, initials, or your firm's mark laser-engraved into the steel. That's included in the price, not an upcharge.

"Lamose's products are very high quality. They used my logo and made perfect gifts for my clients. All of my clients rave about how nice the mugs are!"

How to budget it

Skip the guessing. Pick one product, one engraving line, and quote your real list size — a 12-person top-account list and a 200-person full-book mailing get priced differently, and we'd rather tell you the real number than let a broker's per-unit sticker price set your expectations wrong. Business-gift tax treatment in Canada has its own rules; we cover that separately in our CRA rules guide for corporate gifts For a full client list, see our custom corporate drinkware page for volume pricing and typical lead times.

Frequently asked

What's a good client appreciation gift that isn't a mug with a logo on it?
Give the client's own name or initials, not your company's logo. A tumbler or bottle engraved with the recipient's name reads as a gift; the same item printed with your company logo reads as marketing they now have to store.

What's a reasonable budget for client appreciation gifts in Canada?
$35–$45 per person covers a genuinely well-made, personalized steel tumbler or bottle — enough to feel considered without tipping into "extravagant," which matters for both perception and the tax rules on business gifts.

Should client appreciation gifts be personalized?
Yes. An unpersonalized item competes with everything else on a desk. A name or a date laser-engraved into steel is the one detail a broker's catalog can't replicate at scale, and it's the reason the item survives past week one.

How many client gifts should a small business budget for in a year?
Most of the businesses we work with pick a tier: top 10–20 accounts get a personalized piece annually, and everyone else gets folded into a single seasonal touch. Trying to gift the entire client list at the same tier usually means nobody gets something that actually lands.

Can I order client appreciation gifts online in Canada?
Yes. We engrave names, dates, and logos on steel tumblers and bottles in our Calgary workshop and ship across Canada: single pieces in 1–3 business days, full client lists in 1–2 weeks.
