Search "corporate gift companies canada" on Google and seven of the top ten results sell gift boxes or baskets. That's a fine answer if you want a box. It's the wrong one if what you really want is a gift people still own next October.
Most buyers pick a company before they've decided what the gift is for, and that's where the money goes wrong. Below are the four kinds of Canadian corporate gift companies, eleven real ones with their own minimums and lead times, and the one question that tells you which kind to call.
The short answer. Canadian corporate gift companies come in four kinds: gift-box curators, food brands, promotional-products distributors and engravers. Hire a box curator for a one-time client thank-you. Hire a promo distributor for 500 logo pens at a trade show. For staff gifts people should keep for years, hire an engraver and put each person's name on it.

The one question: what should they still have in a year?
A gift box is built for the moment it's opened. The chocolate gets eaten, the candle burns down and the box goes in the recycling. For a client you're thanking once, that's fine. The moment is the point.
A logo pen is built for volume. It costs little because it's made for people you'll never meet, and it gets treated that way.
A piece with someone's own name on it is built to be kept. A tumbler with your name cut into it is hard to regift. That's why we think staff gifts belong in this last group, and why we'd send you elsewhere for the other two.
So decide what the gift is for first. Then pick the type of company. Then pick the company.
The four kinds of corporate gift company in Canada
| Type | Best for | Still around in a year? | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gift-box curators | Client thank-yous, mixed addresses across Canada | The box, maybe. The contents, no. | Custom boxes can need 4 weeks to 3 months |
| Food brands | A shared treat for an office or client team | Gone by Friday | Allergies, and shipping to many addresses |
| Promo distributors | Hundreds of logo items for events and handouts | Usually in a drawer | Minimums around 50, 2 to 3 weeks of production |
| Engravers | Staff gifts, milestones, long-service awards | Yes, if it carries their name | Needs a name list, so it can't be last-minute |

How we'd pick, honestly
For a client thank-you shipped to twenty different offices: a box curator. Gift Smack ships ready-made boxes the same or next business day, and Grey Willow handles individual-address shipping across Canada. If you're in Calgary and want something designed from scratch, Willows Box & Co does custom boxes from 12, with 4 to 6 weeks of lead time.
For a team that's spread out and picky: a platform like Giftagram. The recipient confirms the gift and enters their own address. That saves you collecting home addresses, which is often the slowest part of gifting a remote team.
For 300 logo items at a conference booth: a promo distributor. Plan for about 50 pieces minimum and two to three weeks. Few people will keep the pen, but at that volume they don't need to.
For staff you want to thank properly: an engraver, with each person's name on the piece. Engravables in Mississauga engraves most items while you wait if you're near the GTA. We engrave insulated steel tumblers and bottles in Calgary and ship across Canada. A Peyto 16 oz is $40 with engraving included, and $22 each once you order 10 or more. Every piece can carry a different name at no extra step.
Where we're the wrong call: anything edible, anything full-colour (we only engrave), and a wrapped box with six items in it. Go to the curators above for those.
What a name does that a logo doesn't
A logo tells the person who paid for the gift. A name tells the person who got it. One small-business customer left us this review in September: "Our second year working with them for merchandise for our small company. They are always a pleasure to work with, and the mugs and engraving are really high quality!" A second year of ordering means the first year's gifts went over well.
The proof step matters too. Another September buyer wrote that we "emailed me what the image would look like before starting customizing." The font looked squished to them, so we changed it before anything was cut. With 40 names, that check is what keeps a typo off someone's cup for good.
Sending a gift to every desk? Start with the Peyto 16 oz and add the names.
The $500 CRA rule, in one paragraph
For employee gifts, the Canada Revenue Agency allows "an unlimited number of non-cash gifts or awards with a combined total fair market value of $500 or less (including taxes) in the year." Go over it, and "the amount over $500 is taxable." Gift cards that work like cash don't qualify. A long-service award for "5 or more years of service" gets its own separate $500. A $22 engraved tumbler uses very little of the allowance. Check the details with your accountant.
When to order for Christmas
Custom boxes need the most time: 4 to 6 weeks at Willows, and 1 to 3 months at Black Bow. For our engraved orders, the proof comes within 24 hours and engraving takes 1 to 3 business days. Large custom-artwork runs take 5 to 10 business days, so we ask corporate and bulk orders to be in by Friday, November 20. Whichever company you choose, get the name list together in October.
Ordering for a whole company? Send us your numbers and a person in our Calgary studio will reply with prices within 24 hours.
FAQ
Which companies do corporate gifting in Canada?
Four kinds: gift-box curators (Gift Smack, The Happy Box, Willows Box & Co, Black Bow, Grey Willow, Bright Boxes), food brands (Lindt Canada), promotional-products distributors (Promotional Products Canada) and engravers (Engravables, LAMOSE). Platforms like Giftagram let recipients choose their own gift.
What are some popular gift companies in Canada?
On Google's first page for corporate gifts in Canada, most results are gift-box companies such as Gift Smack, The Happy Box, Grey Willow and Willows Box & Co, plus Lindt for chocolate. Engravers and promo distributors show up less, but suit staff gifts and bulk logo items better.
What is the most popular corporate gift?
Gift boxes and baskets dominate what's sold online. Seven of the top ten Google results for corporate gift companies in Canada sell them. For staff gifts that last, our pick is an insulated tumbler engraved with each person's name.
What are some unique corporate gifts available in Canada?
Anything with the recipient's own name on it, because it can't be regifted. Examples include an engraved steel tumbler or bottle, an engraved name tag, or a custom box with Canadian-made contents. For volume, the name matters more than the price.
Are corporate gifts tax-free for employees in Canada?
Non-cash gifts and awards are tax-free up to a combined $500 a year per employee, including taxes. The amount over $500 is taxable, and cash or cash-like gift cards are always taxable. Long-service awards for 5 or more years get a separate $500.
