Open five groomsmen gift boxes a year after the wedding and you'll find four flasks still sealed in their tins. You don't need one design to fit all five. Pick the tumbler by the guy, not the other way around, and engrave the same wedding date on every one so the set still reads as a matched gift when the photos go up.
What to actually engrave
Skip "Groomsman" in block letters. It's the same instinct as the flask: generic, and it says nothing about him specifically.
- Names or initials. The baseline. Still better than a title.
- The wedding date. Ties the gift to the day without needing his name on it too.
- Coordinates. Where you met, where you went to school, the bar you all still go back to.
- An inside joke. Short, specific, his. This is the one that gets a real reaction when he opens it.
