Map listings still show Things Engraved at 1120 Grant Ave in Winnipeg. Walk in looking for that counter and you'll find it's been gone since January 2020 — the chain closed all 73 of its Canadian mall stores that winter. The listings never caught up, and neither did the searches.

So what do you do instead? That depends on one question: are you engraving something you already own, or buying a finished engraved gift?

The short answer.

Things Engraved closed every Canadian store in January 2020 and now sells online only. In Winnipeg today, laser studios, trophy shops, and jewellers will engrave an item you bring in. If you want a finished engraved steel tumbler or bottle, order direct from a maker — we engrave to order in our Calgary workshop and ship to Winnipeg in 1–3 business days, engraving included.

Your four options in Winnipeg, compared

Option Best for The catch
Laser and trophy studios Plaques, awards, signage, bring-your-own items You supply the item; built for one-off service jobs, not gifts
Jewellers with engraving service Rings, watches, and lockets you already own Priced per job; most don't sell the gift itself
Online gift resellers Browsing many categories in one place They resell catalogue goods; the engraving is often the only custom part
Order direct from a maker Finished engraved steel tumblers, bottles, and mugs, shipped to your door Not same-day: made to order, ships in 1–3 days

If you're engraving something you already own

Winnipeg has real service shops built for exactly this. D&N Engraving runs laser work from industrial jobs down to gifts. 1313 Engravers and Luxe Customized Engraving both take bring-your-own-item jobs, and LaserMania sells its engraving work through Etsy. On the jewelry side, several Winnipeg jewellers advertise laser engraving for rings and watches. If your item is a curling trophy or a ring that needs a date inside the band, that's a counter job: someone looking at the actual object in front of them.

Call ahead with the material. A laser calibrated for a brass plaque isn't set up the same way for anodized aluminum or powder-coated steel, and a shop quoting your item sight-unseen is guessing.

If you're buying an engraved gift

This is the hole the mall stores left. Things Engraved sold the item and the engraving together — pick a flask, add a name, walk out with a gift. The laser studios and jewellers that rank in its place weren't built for that; they're set up for one-off jobs on items people already have, not a shelf of gifts ready to personalize.

We took the direct route instead. LAMOSE makes the tumblers and bottles ourselves and engraves every order in our Calgary workshop: the laser cuts through the powder coat into bare steel, so the name can't fade, peel, or wash off. Engraving is included, not an add-on. Your order is made when you place it and ships to Winnipeg in 1–3 business days. 7,577 Etsy reviews sit at 4.9 stars.

  • Robson 21 oz bottle, $40. 12 hours hot, 24 hours cold, one-hand sport cap. Coffee that's still hot after the river-trail walk in a Winnipeg January.

See the Grouse — or add a name, a date, or coordinates to any piece and it ships engraved.

What about bulk orders in Winnipeg?

Team trophies aren't the only thing offices order with names on them. Staff gifts, conference pieces, rec-league prizes, festival crew thank-yous — same workshop, same laser. Every piece can carry a different name, engraving in French works exactly the same as English, accents included, and pricing is quoted per project. Tell us about your project and we'll reply within one business day.
