Ask Vancouver where to get something engraved and you get a strange answer: a Reddit thread, a Yelp list, and the website of a mall chain that closed every store it had. Things Engraved shut all 73 of its Canadian stores in January 2020, and people in Vancouver are still searching for the counter that isn't there.

What you do now depends on one question: are you engraving something you already own, or buying a finished engraved gift?

The short answer.

Things Engraved closed every Canadian store in January 2020 and now sells online only. In Vancouver today, local laser shops and jewellers will engrave items you bring in, some same-day. If you want a finished engraved steel tumbler or bottle, order direct from a maker — we engrave to order in our Calgary workshop and ship to Vancouver in 1–3 business days, engraving included.

Your four options in Vancouver, compared

Option Best for The catch
Jewelry engravers Rings, watches, and lockets you already own Priced per job; most don't sell the item itself
Laser service shops Bring-your-own items, plaques, small batches; some offer same-day You supply the item; quality depends on what you bring
Online gift resellers Browsing many categories in one place They resell catalogue goods; the engraving is often the only custom part
Order direct from a maker Finished engraved steel tumblers, bottles, and mugs, shipped to your door Not same-day: made to order, ships in 1–3 days

If you're engraving something you already own

Vancouver has real service shops, and for the right job they're the answer. The Engraving Place and Inkfire Studios both run engraving services in the city, and the Make lab on Granville Island offers laser engraving too. If your grandmother's locket needs a date inside the cover, that's a counter job — a person looking at the actual object.

Call ahead with the material. Laser settings for anodized aluminum, powder-coated steel, and glass are all different, and a shop quoting your item sight-unseen is guessing.

If you're buying an engraved gift

This is the hole the mall stores left. Things Engraved sold the item and the engraving together: pick a flask, add a name, walk out. The reseller sites that rank in its place still work that way, but the products come from a catalogue and the engraving is the only custom step.

We took the other route. LAMOSE makes the tumblers and bottles ourselves and engraves every order in our Calgary workshop: the laser cuts through the powder coat into bare steel, so the name can't fade, peel, or wash off. Engraving is included, not an add-on. Your order is made when you place it and ships to Vancouver in 1–3 business days. 7,577 Etsy reviews sit at 4.9 stars.

Two places to start:

  • Grouse 16 oz tumbler, $35. Double-wall 18/8 stainless steel, 6 hours hot, 12 hours cold. The everyday cup people keep on their desk — and a name Vancouver already knows from its own skyline.
  • Robson 21 oz bottle, $40. 12 hours hot, 24 hours cold. The one that goes to the gym, the office, and the seawall in the same week.
