If you're engraving something you already own
Toronto still has real options here, and they deserve the business. Shops like Artdeco and iCanLaser run laser engraving services in the city, and jewellers such as Kia Jewelry advertise same-day engraving for pieces you bring in. If your grandfather's watch needs a date on the caseback, that's the right kind of shop — a person at a counter, looking at the actual object.
Call ahead with the material. Laser settings for anodized aluminum, powder-coated steel, and glass are all different, and a shop that engraves your item sight-unseen is guessing.
If you're buying an engraved gift
This is where the mall-store model actually lived — and where its closure left the real hole. Things Engraved sold the item and the engraving together: pick a flask, add a name, done. The online resellers that rank in its place still work that way, but the products come from a catalogue and the engraving is the only custom step.
