Your drivers will spend part of Christmas week the way they spend the rest of the year: in a cab, one hand on the wheel, one cupholder, a long shift ahead. Most truck driver gift lists were written for a spouse buying one present. You're buying 30, and every one has to work in that cab.

Here's the test we'd put every gift through, how we rank the usual options, what it costs for a fleet, and the dates to order by.

The short answer. Give each driver one thing they'll use every shift: a lidded insulated tumbler that fits the cupholder, opens with one hand, and has their name engraved on it. Skip ornaments, novelty mugs and anything with a handle. At 10 or more, a Grouse 20 oz is $22 each.

The cab test

A gift for a driver gets used in one place. So judge it there, not on a gift table.

  1. It fits the cupholder. If it doesn't, it rides on the floor or the passenger seat, and then it stays home.
  2. The lid opens and closes with one hand, and seals. A lid that needs two hands is a lid nobody should be using at highway speed.
  3. It lasts the shift. Federal hours-of-service rules let a driver drive up to 13 hours in a day and be on duty for 14. Coffee poured at 5 a.m. should still be worth drinking at lunch.
  4. It has their name on it. Shared trucks, shared yards, shared break rooms. A name is how a cup gets back to its owner.

Truck driver gifts from a company, ranked

We ranked the usual options by the cab test and by how the CRA treats them for company drivers.

Rank Gift Passes the cab test? CRA, for an employee
1 Lidded insulated tumbler with the driver's name Yes, if you pick one that fits the holder and has a one-hand lid Non-cash gift. Counts toward $500 a year.
2 A good winter jacket or hoodie Yes. Worn at every fuel stop and trailer check. Non-cash gift. Counts toward $500 a year.
3 Gift card for one chain (fuel stop, restaurant) Useful, gone by January Non-cash only if it meets the CRA's conditions. Otherwise taxable.
4 Insulated mug with a handle Often not. Our own reviews say the handle blocks the holder. Non-cash gift.
5 Ornaments, keychains, "World's Best Trucker" signs No. Nothing to do in a cab. Non-cash gift, and a waste of the allowance.
6 Cash or a prepaid Visa or Mastercard Everyone likes it. Nobody remembers it. Always taxable.

The jacket is a fair second. If your budget runs to both, a jacket with the company name and a tumbler with the driver's name cover the two things a driver carries out of the truck at every stop.

Which tumbler fits a truck cab

We sell several tumblers. Only some pass the cab test, and we'd rather tell you now than read about it in a review.

Piece Lid Cupholder (per our product page) Hot / cold Each at 10+ Our call
Grouse 20 oz Leakproof flip lid, one hand "Fits standard car and desk cupholders" 6 h / 12 h $22 Our pick
Grouse 16 oz Leakproof flip lid, one hand "Fits standard cupholders" 6 h / 12 h $19.25 Same lid, less coffee. The budget pick.
Peyto 16 oz Splash-proof sliding lid 3.4" wide, "fits standard car and desk cupholders" 6 h / 24 h $22 Fine in the holder. Splash-proof isn't leakproof, so not for a bag.
Grouse 34 oz Flip-top lid Page says it fits; it has a carry handle 12 h / 24 h $24.75 Longest heat. Check the handle against your trucks first.
Hudson Pro Max 24 oz Splash-proof slide lid Handle, 4" wide 7 h / 13 h $22 A desk mug. Skip it for drivers.

Prices are CAD before tax and shipping, from our product pages on October 7, 2026. The 45% price applies at 10 or more pieces, and you can mix models.

The handle warning comes from our own customers. A 3-star review of one of our handled travel mugs, bought as a corporate gift, said: "it is too wide to fit in any kind of cup holder. Kind of defeats having a coffee cup to go." Another buyer of our camping mug wrote: "Just be aware these cups do not fit in a cup holder." Both were right. That's why no mug with a handle makes this list.

Cupholders in heavy trucks can differ from car holders, and "standard" on our page means a car holder. Before you order 40, take one Grouse to the yard and drop it in the holder of the truck you run most. If it fits there, it'll fit the fleet.

Company drivers and owner-operators aren't the same gift

For employees, the CRA allows "an unlimited number of non-cash gifts or awards with a combined total fair market value of $500 or less (including taxes) in the year." A $22 tumbler sits well inside that. Cash and prepaid cards are always taxable. A store gift card counts as non-cash only if it's for named retailers, can't be turned into cash, and you keep a log of each card.

Owner-operators leased to your fleet are a different case. They usually aren't your employees, and that CRA page is about employees. A gift to an owner-operator is a gift to another business. Ask your accountant how to book it. Either way, give them the same tumbler with their name on it. Drivers talk, and nobody should find out at the fuel island that the company skipped them.

We sell engraved gifts, not tax advice, so run the plan past whoever does payroll. Our full read of the CRA rules is in the CRA gift rules explained.

What it costs for a fleet

Piece 10 drivers 25 drivers 50 drivers
Grouse 16 oz at $19.25 $192.50 $481.25 $962.50
Grouse 20 oz at $22 $220 $550 $1,100
Grouse 34 oz at $24.75 $247.50 $618.75 $1,237.50

For scale: Canada had 342,340 employed transport truck drivers in the 2021 Census (Statistics Canada, Table 98-10-0449-01). Trucking HR Canada counted 13,780 open driver jobs in the second quarter of 2026. When a fleet is competing for drivers, $22 a head to say "we know your name" is cheap.

What to engrave, and how to get it to drivers who are never in the yard

Engrave the driver's name. Not the unit number, because trucks change and people don't. Add the year if you want it to read as a Christmas gift. If the company wants its mark on it, put a small logo on the other side.

Then the logistics, which is where fleet gifts fall apart:

  1. Pull names from payroll and your contractor list, so owner-operators don't fall off.
  2. Send us the list. We send a free digital proof within 24 hours. Check every name on it.
  3. Pick how it ships. We can ship each gift to a driver's home with your note in the box, or send the whole run to the yard for dispatch to hand out.
  4. Order by the date. Runs of 25 or more by Friday, November 20. Smaller personalized orders by Friday, December 11. That covers a proof within 24 hours, 1 to 3 business days on the laser (5 to 10 for custom bulk artwork), then the carrier.

Missed National Trucking Week? It runs from the first Sunday in September to the following Saturday; in 2026 it was September 6 to 12. Christmas is your second chance this year. Put next September in the calendar now.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good Christmas gift for a truck driver from the company?

Something they'll use every shift in the cab. Our pick is a lidded insulated tumbler that fits the cupholder, opens with one hand and has the driver's name engraved on it. A good winter jacket is a close second.

What are good appreciation gifts for truck drivers?

Gifts that pass the cab test: they fit the cupholder or get worn at every stop, and they carry the driver's name. Skip ornaments, keychains and novelty signs, which have no use in a truck.

What does every truck driver need in the cab?

A drink that stays hot or cold through a long shift, in a container that won't spill when the truck brakes. That means a sealed, one-hand lid and a body that fits the cupholder.

Are Christmas gifts to drivers taxable in Canada?

For company drivers, non-cash gifts are tax-free up to $500 a year per employee, including taxes, under the CRA's policy. Cash and prepaid cards are taxable. Owner-operators aren't employees, so ask your accountant how to treat their gifts.

When is National Trucking Week in Canada?

It starts on the first Sunday in September and runs to the following Saturday. In 2026 it ran September 6 to 12. The Canadian Trucking Alliance and the provincial trucking associations run it.

When should a fleet order Christmas gifts?

Order runs of 25 or more engraved pieces by Friday, November 20, 2026, and smaller personalized orders by Friday, December 11. December carriers are the slow part, so earlier is safer.
